What does the law say?

In Belgium, every enterprise or institution with employees is obliged to draw up labour regulations in which the mutual rights and obligations of employers and employees are described. These may state, among other things, that changing rooms, storage compartments and cupboards must be made available to the employees.

1 - Dismountable or monoblock?

You have understood correctly, there are two types of wardrobes: demountable or monoblock models.

DEMOUNTABLE WARDROBES

Supplied in kit form, this model can be assembled with the help of instructions or by a professional. The main advantage of this model is that it can be delivered anywhere, even in premises with narrow access. Once assembled, it is perfectly stable and rigid.

It consists of at least two elements, so it is important to study carefully the assemblage before taking any steps!
  • The "basic module" consists of 2 side panels.
  • The extansion element on the other hand, has only one side panel! This saves space when installing a row of several lockers. Please note that the next element cannot be used alone. It must be combined with a starting element.

THE MONOBLOCK LOCKER

The monoblock locker, as its name suggests, is a cabinet consisting of one element (block) that is welded in the factory. This model is delivered ready for use, which means an enormous gain of time when fitting out your premises. Durability and robustness are its greatest assets. Thanks to its great sturdiness, it can even be moved when filled. The monoblock locker is available with one or several columns and compartments.

OFFICE WARDROBES

Office wardrobe
In companies, preference is given to lockers or wardrobes made of wood or metal with a wood motif. Since they are elegant, they integrate easily into the office environment. Available in two versions: with one or two doors.

LOCKERS FOR FACTORY, WORKSHOP, HOSPITAL

In this case, metal wardrobes are recommended. They are sold with one or two compartments. For dirty work, a coat rack with two compartments (one for street clothes and another for work clothes) is needed so that dirt does not transfer to clean clothes. For clean work, a wardrobe with only one compartment is sufficient.

LOCKERS AND CLOSETS FOR COMMUNITIES AND SCHOOLS

School locker room
In this type of facility, the use of lockers with individual locks is preferred, but the locks are centrally controlled by a single "pass" key. Only the school's manager has this key allowing him/her to open all lockers. Compliant with the NF Education and NF Environment standards, lockers for schools are ideal for storing schoolbags, bags, books and notebooks.

In case of graffiti

Metal lockers can be cleaned with soapy water or glass cleaner. Do not use scouring agents. If graffiti is found, clean immediately. Do not use so-called "anti-graffiti" wipes containing caustic soda, which will attack the paint over time.

3 - Which locking system should you choose?

There are different locking systems depending on the type of locker or wardrobe you have chosen.

LOCKER WITH HASP AND PADLOCK

Locker lock hasp with padlock
The simple hasp consists of a metal plate with a slot into which a fixed half-ring slides. This allows the device to be closed by means of a padlock. This type of lock is recommended, for example, for school lockers: each pupil has his own padlock and can use any compartment, it is no longer necessary to assign the lockers and the administrator's work is simplified. It is strongly recommended to use padlocks with code to prevent the loss of keys.

LOCK WITH KEY

This system requires the presence of a manager who will assign one locker to a person and will have to use a pass to open this locker in the event that the key is lost or forgotten. To facilitate the management of this type of locker room, consider equipping yourself with a key cabinet.

4 - Plinths and covers

Locker cabinet with integrated bench

Locker with integrated bench
A bench base allows you to raise the locker cabinet by at least 35 cm, and at the same time offer a seat. This seat is then located in front of the locker cabinet. The structure is made of grey epoxy lacquered steel tubes, the seat is made of lacquered wooden slats.

THE FOUR-LEGGED PLINTH

The 4-legged base raises the locker up to 12 cm, making it easy to clean the floor. The polypropylene structure is suitable for humid environments and will not rust.

INCLINED COVER

Inclined cover for lockers
To avoid accidents caused by storing heavy or dangerous products on top of the lockers or cabinets, we recommend an inclined cover! This is a triangular shaped metal cover that can be fitted over a cloakroom to make the top unusable. The aim is to keep the top free of objects or material, so that nothing can fall down and the place remains a safe place.
