Office chair: the different types of armrests

Armrests on office chairs have a real function and are very important in everyday life for maintaining a good working posture. Especially if you spend the whole day tapping away at your keyboard!

office chairs: the different types of armrests

1D, 2D, 3D and 4D armrests

The role of armrests is to support the elbows and thus relieve the shoulder muscles. By resting your elbows on the armrests instead of on the table, you avoid leaning forward and putting extra pressure on your elbows. Armrests also promote a good sitting posture. However, make sure that the armrests are not set too high and do not touch the desk.

There are 4 types of armrests: 1D, 2D, 3D and 4D armrests.

  • With 1D armrests, the simplest type, you can only adjust the height.
  • In the case of 2D armrests, you can adjust both height and depth.
  • 3D armrests can be adjusted in height, depth and width.
  • And finally, the 4D armrests. These armrests are the most 'sophisticated'. They can be adjusted in height, depth and width and can also be turned inwards or outwards.

Good armrests, apart from being adjustable as much as possible, are quite wide and have a slightly softer surface for more comfort! Now it's up to you to make your choice!
