7 tips for saving paper in the company

Do you need to save money? Are you environmentally conscious? Discover our 7 tips to reduce paper consumption in your company. 7 tips for saving paper in the company

A look at the history of paper

The invention of paper dates back to 3000 BC, so it's been a while! We owe it to the Egyptians with their famous papyrus made from extracts of Nile reed. Before that, people wrote - among other things - on stones. (Who knows why ... the charm of stone no doubt!) Much more practical than pebbles, papyrus became very popular and developed into the paper we are still familiar with a few thousand years later. :)

7 tips to reduce paper consumption and cut costs

Although the trend is towards digitalisation, paper is still very important in the daily life of most professionals. According to the Nicolas Hulot Foundation, an office worker in France consumes an average of 80 kg of paper per year, which represents 25 kg of CO2 emissions. In addition to the ecological issue, paper represents a considerable budget in the daily routine of a company. And that's where we step in to give you some advice!
1

THINK BEFORE YOU PRINT

We fondly recall those years when our parents used to say "think before you act" and we have to admit that time has proved them right. To please Mother Nature, the accountant (and our parents), we avoid printing everything! We convert documents into PDFs to make them more pleasant to read on screen, we use a spellchecker to get it right the first time, and when a 200-page file arrives, we select only the pages that interest us.
2

THINK DOUBLE-SIDED

It seems obvious but nevertheless, it is not yet a reflex in all companies: by printing on both sides you can (logically!) save half of your paper belts. That equals an instant reduction of 50%, poof, with just one click, great, isn't it? Plus, you don't have to invest in thicker paper: most 80 gsm sheets are compatible with this print mode.

3

PLAY WITH THE LAYOUT

When dealing with documents with dozens of pages, the right reflex is to reduce the font size to 10-12: this is generally sufficient to ensure good legibility. Another idea is to print in multipage mode per sheet.
4

REDUCE THE GRAMMAGE OF YOUR PAPER

Choosing thinner paper not only reduces the ecological impact but also, and above all, reduces costs! Thinner paper is generally cheaper to buy and also reduces postage costs. In most cases, 80 gsm paper will do very well.

RECYCLE BEFORE THROWING AWAY

To all of you who like to sort vertically: please look before you throw away. If you have printed on one side only, for example, keep your documents so that you can use the reverse side as a draft. To encourage this good habit, don't hesitate to install paper bins next to the printer.

6

DIGITALISE FREQUENTLY USED DOCUMENTS

Another way of saving paper is to list the documents that are regularly printed and try to process them digitally. For example, offer electronic invoicing to your customers and create online forms whenever possible.
7

OPT FOR RECYCLED PAPER!

FSC paper, PEFC, Blauer Engel, Ecolabel, Origine France Garantie... there is no shortage of standards and ecolabels. To reduce your carbon footprint, recycled paper is the way to go. :) And contrary to popular belief, it is compatible with all types of printer and is as white as white!
